Setting the tracks ablaze: Spectacular performances mark the Annual Inter-House Athletics Meet 2023
“In the end, it’s the extra effort that separates a winner from second place. But winning takes a lot more than that, too. It takes desire, determination, discipline, and self-sacrifice. And finally, it takes a great deal of love, fairness and respect for your fellow man. Put all these together, and even if you don’t win, how can you lose?” – Jesse Owens
The Annual Athletic Meet is one of the most awaited events of the year. The event embodies the sportsmanship, talent, athleticism, zeal, determination, and perseverance of our students. April 13th was an absolutely exciting and action-packed day at GSIS! The Annual Inter-House Athletics Meet 2023 got off to a flying start with the arrival of our Chief Guest, Mr. Aravindan, a distinguished entrepreneur and an alumnus of GSIS (Games captain, 1987-88). Mr. Aravindan inspected the Guard of Honour and took the salute at the March Past of the various contingents. This was followed by the lighting of the ceremonial torch by the game captains, Vedika Krishnankutty and Adhwait Pritesh Panchal. Mr. Aravindan, our respected Chief Guest, declared the meet open, subsequent to which our game captains took the oath on behalf of all the athletes.
This year too, the Athletics Meet showcased intense, adrenaline-packed performances by our athletes. The highlights of the event were: the 100 metres Finals and 4 X 100 metres Relay for Boys & Girls in Sub- Junior, Junior, Inter, Senior and Super Senior categories, 50 metres hurdles (Finals) and 60 metres hurdles (Finals) for boys and girls of Grades 3 and 4, and medley relays for all divisions. The Aerobics dance performed by students of Primary School and the guest event pepped up the ambience and added oodles of fun to the day.
Vedika Krishnankutty, Girls’ games captain, delivered the welcome address on occasion following which our Chief Guest, Mr. Aravindan, addressed the gathering. He also distributed medals and certificates to the most promising athletes and record-breakers of the competition.
Winter House won the Champions Trophy for the Annual Inter-House Athletics Meet 2023. It is the Winter House’s second major victory, as they also won the Annual Inter-House Swim Meet 2023 just a week ago. Congratulations to the champions! Keep scaling new heights!
