Medical Facilities

At GSIS, we aim to promote a healthy environment by adopting a preventive and holistic approach to health and wellness. As part of our preventive healthcare programme, we carry out periodic medical examinations of students and staff as per the National Immunization Schedule. We also ensure that the food served meets the nutritional requirements of our students.

The school is equipped to provide first aid and emergency care to students and staff, and also has a tie-up with the best medical specialists in the Nilgiris for consultation and treatment when required.

Our medical infrastructure includes:

  • 2 hospitals with 40 beds each, an isolation ward and IC unit
  • 2 Resident Medical Officers
  • A visiting orthodontist
  • 7 experienced and trained staff nurses
  • 2 fully-equipped ambulances for emergencies

Components of the School Health Programme

Health Appraisal

The school carries out periodic medical examinations of students. This includes a clinical examination for nutritional deficiency, annual testing of vision, and regular and quarterly weight and height checks. Besides this, daily morning inspections are carried out at the boarding houses to check for the presence of any illness. The school maintains cumulative health records of students. Examination reports of students who require medical attention are sent to their respective parents.

Dental and Eye Health

The school employs a dental hygienist and orthodontist for regular dental check-ups and treatment. All eye-related infections and errors are detected and treated in the school campus by an ophthalmologist.

Mental Health

The mental health of students affects their physical health and the learning process. At our school, the staff plans and organizes a well-balanced curriculum with the right mix of co-curricular activities so that students are not overburdened and have sufficient room for relaxation and recreation.

Health Education

Health education is provided to help students develop awareness of health-related subjects, and take care of themselves mentally and physically, The focus areas include personal hygiene, nutrition, lifestyle, and prevention and control of communicable and non-communicable diseases.
