With the Beginning of April – The Month of Sports, GSIS Introduces a recreational room for young learners (PYP)
GSIS is proud to have achieved the milestone of becoming an IB Continuum School, offering three of the International Baccalaureate’s high-quality programmes – The Primary Years Programme (PYP), Middle Years Programme (MYP) and Diploma Programme (DP). As we walk the path to transformation, we are now focused on enhancing our pedagogy, providing our students with a globally-relevant education that prepares them to be committed, creative and compassionate citizens of the world.
In Primary Years Programme (PYP), play is one of the four guiding principles that aid creative learning. Play-based learning fosters 21st-century skills such as problem-solving, collaboration and creativity and is an integral aspect of a child’s social, emotional, physical, and intellectual development. To enhance the learning experience of our students, we have introduced a newly designed recreational room for our young PYP learners.
The recreational room enables unstructured play, allowing students to take risks, become independent, resolve conflicts, develop perseverance and much more. Unstructured play also helps learners develop nurturing relationships and permits children to construct knowledge rather than rote learn content. The imagination and resourcefulness of children from unstructured play enhance their focus and academic skills as they participate in hands-on, student-led learning. Children develop social-emotional, cognitive, linguistic and self-management skills, which helps them optimize their development. The mutual joy and shared responsibility during play help students to manage stress effectively.
Our recreational room has a variety of board games, dartboards, Lego sets, racing tracks, hopscotch games and much more which creates a stimulating and inviting learning space for our kids. Playing with peers cultivates the ability to negotiate and develop positive interpersonal relationships among students. The recreational room at GSIS provides the perfect learning space for our students to thrive and grow to be global citizens.
