Career Guidance and Counselling

The Career Guidance and Counselling Department at GSIS was established in 1996 when counselling was still a new term in our society. GSIS is an IELTS and SAT centre. Students are trained in Grade 11 to take these aptitude tests required for their university applications.

Career counselling aids students to recognize their strengths and values, and they are guided accordingly by administering standardized aptitude tests and helping them make the right choice of subjects for their higher education and careers. Parents are welcome to meet the counsellors twice a year in person during the Parent Teachers’ meet or with appointment to discuss the subject combinations and career choices of their children. High School and Higher Secondary School students and their parents are provided with personal and group sessions as they navigate their way through the many global university and career options available, to help them choose the most suitable courses and universities. Regular university fairs and career workshops are organized to help students gain knowledge about changing career trends and academic and university requirements. Students are guided at every step of their university applications to ensure that they have a basket of university placements by the time they graduate from Grade 12.

Besides career counselling, due emphasis is laid on personal counselling to support the emotional health of our students. The GSIS Counselling team comprises four Counsellors who cater to the well-being of students in our residential school setting. The Counsellors act as facilitators, and students are encouraged to speak their mind, and let out their feelings and emotions without interruption. This helps students introspect, which enables the Counsellor to guide them to handle the matter on their own. However, personal guidance is provided whenever required. Students are helped to identify their learning styles and further guided if they need additional learning support from teachers or specialists.

To develop a culture of care is our main endeavor, and we work with the entire GSIS community to give each child our very best and help them equip themselves to face this world with passion and grit.
