At GSIS, students learn in ergonomically designed classrooms equipped with SMART Boards, and all students from Grades 4 to 12 are provided with laptops. The Higher Secondary School block has 32 Smart Classrooms where 11 Smart LED panels and Smart Document Cameras are also installed. Wi-Fi access points are available to provide wireless coverage to all the classrooms.
There are three libraries located in different sections of the school. The collection includes books, newspapers, magazines, Kindles, desktop computers, reference materials, CDs and DVDs.
GSIS’ well-stocked library houses over 50,000 volumes of books, comprising references, prescribed texts and popular fiction. The school subscribes to over 14 newspapers and 125 national and international magazines. The library is equipped with a computerized database, enabling students to have quick and easy access to necessary books. The school also has memberships of two international libraries to meet the additional needs of students.
In order to promote reading, the school organizes various festivals, displays and activities from time to time. These include reading hour sessions, interaction with authors, author birthday celebrations, literary events, quizzes, summer and winter reading challenges. Well qualified teacher librarians assist students with skill developments.
In order to attract young readers, the library space has been upgraded to create a better learning ambience and provide adequate space with bean bags and couches to collaborate, research, learn, share, read and relax.
The school has state-of-the-art Audio Visual Halls, with traditional theatre seating in the Palada Campus and Language Labs for English, French, Spanish and Hindi. The Audio Visual Labs have a videopedia procured from Language and Scientific Institutes across various parts of the world that specialize in audio-visual communication systems and techniques, especially those accredited by the British Broadcasting Corporation. The benefits of visual stimuli and interactive learning have been more than reinforced through the use of such technology at GSIS.
Design Technology is one of the most sought-after courses as it focuses on analysis, design development, synthesis and evaluation to develop internationally minded people whose enhanced understanding of design and technology can create a better world.
The most modern machines, conforming to international standards to provide effective teaching and learning have been set up in all the four Design Technology Workshops at the school. The Design Studio in the HSS block is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities like a 3D Printer for Rapid Prototyping, Laser Cutter & Engraver for Modeling, Pen-Tablets and Network Color Printers to Enhance Creative Drawing and Communication Skills, central to design making and evaluation.
The subject develops initiative in applying thinking skills critically and creatively to identify and resolve complex social and technological problems through reasoned ethical decision-making. It enables students to apply knowledge and understanding to the design and making of products, taking into consideration sustainability and the wider impact on society. It also develops the ability to make aesthetic, economic, moral and technical value judgments.
At GSIS, we strongly believe that Visual Arts forms an integral part of the holistic development of a child. The Visual Art Studio is a dedicated space for students to express themselves through traditional mediums like Drawing, Painting, Clay Modeling, Printmaking and Photography, and also experiment with new age mediums like Digital art, Conceptual and Installation Art, etc.
The state-of-the-art laboratories at the school meet all the international standards of safety, and standards of the national and the international curriculum. There are three separate spacious labs for Physics, Chemistry and Biology, which are used to infuse a spirit of learning and inquiry in young minds. The experiments conducted in our labs help students better understand complex concepts, while also giving them the opportunity to be inquirers and enabling them to explore a world beyond books.
The Mathematics Lab in the HSS block is uniquely designed to enable students to learn, explore mathematical concepts and verify mathematical facts and theorems through a variety of activities using different teaching tools such as Manipulatives, Smart LED panel (E70), Smart Document Camera, TI-Nspire CX, TI-Nspire CAS Graphic Display Calculators(GDC), TI-Nspire Navigators (for conducting instant assessments), and Licenced Mathematical Software – Autograph, Geometer’s Sketchpad, Mathtype, Geogebra, etc. The layout of the Math Lab is designed in mathematical shapes and can accommodate upto 30 students in 6 different tables (5 in each table). This arrangement helps in facilitating collaborative learning among students.
Cybernetics and Information Technology have made inroads into academic programmes. We have gone headlong into becoming an IT-savvy school offering Computer Science and other computer courses as prescribed by the curricula on offer in our school. Students have unlimited access to computers and the professional software tools that go with them.
Our teaching laboratories are equipped with computers networked to common file servers and connected to the outside world via the internet through leased lines.
All board examinations are conducted at the Examination Hall, which is at the top level of the Higher Secondary School block. The hall can accommodate over 230 students at a time. An adjacent secure storage room is used for maintaining question papers and other examination material.
The students live in a secular atmosphere and they are free to practise their own beliefs. Quran classes are held regularly for the Muslim students. Hindu students attend Gita classes, during which they are taught Shlokas and Bhajans. Christian students attend the School Chapel Service and Catechism Classes on Sundays.
